Resources & Info for Pediatric Nursing

Pediatrics is a discipline within medicine that pertains to the care of children from birth to age 18. Arthur Jacobi is credited with the early development of modern pediatrics in the mid-19th century. There are many different specialties within the field of pediatrics; a pediatrician may specialize in areas ranging from general medicine to pediatric oncology. General medicine pediatricians will give vaccinations, health exams and treat conditions. For situations that are more complex, children are referred to pediatric specialists. Pediatricians can diagnose a number of different conditions that develop in children, including ADHD and autism. They can also provide guidance on general child health and safety. A pediatrician not only works with children, but must form relationships with parents as well.
